Centaurea (Bachelor's Button)

Bachelor's buttons are a whimsical and easy to grow flower for the pollinator garden. The small flowers come in a wide variety of colors and bloom in abundance atop of long stems that dance in the wind. The flowers are edible and attract many pollinators.  Grow bachelor's buttons in a mass planting in the garden and they will return year after year from fallen seed.
Sowing Information
Bachelor's buttons are best sown directly into the garden in early spring by scattering the seed in place and covering very lightly.  Once the seedlings have emerged, thin the plants to about 6" apart.
Light Preference
Full sun
Soil Requirements
Tolerant of average to poor soils, but prefers well draining soil with average fertility.
