China asters are a relatively easy to grow annual flower with a long bloom period and stunning blooms. With a variety of bloom types there are an abundance of varieties to choose from to fit your aesthetics.
Sowing Information
It is recommended to start Asters as transplants before planting them into the garden.  Start in trays in early spring 6 weeks before you plan on planting them outside. Sow seed 1/8" deep and cover lightly with potting soil. Plant in the garden after all danger of frost has passed.
Light Preference
Full sun
Soil Requirements
Fertile, well-draining, and slightly acidic soil.
Growing tips
Asters are prone to a disease called Aster Yellows Virus. This disease is spread by leafhopper insects. If you are growing Asters for flower production on a large scale, it is recommended that you cover the plants with a row cover or insect netting until bloom.
